Fishing, Family & Community on the Murrumbidgee
The Hay Fishing Classic is one of Hay’s much-loved annual events, bringing together anglers, families, locals and visitors for a fantastic weekend on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River.
Proudly hosted by the Hay Lions Football & Netball Club, the Fishing Classic is about much more than catching the biggest fish. It’s a weekend of fishing, camping, great food, entertainment and catching up with friends – all while supporting our local sporting club and community.
Whether you’re a serious angler chasing that prize-winning catch, introducing the kids to fishing, or simply looking for a great weekend away by the river, there’s something for everyone.

A Weekend for Everyone
The Hay Fishing Classic welcomes anglers of all ages and abilities, with junior and senior fishing categories, great prizes and plenty happening throughout the weekend.
Off the water, competitors and visitors can enjoy the relaxed atmosphere at the event hub, with meals, refreshments and activities making it just as enjoyable for those who aren’t fishing.
Set along the beautiful Murrumbidgee River at Sandy Point, Hay, NSW, the event is also a great opportunity for visitors to experience everything our region has to offer.

Supporting Our Club & Community
The Hay Fishing Classic is a major fundraiser for the Hay Lions Football & Netball Club.
Funds raised through the event help support football and netball in our small rural community, assisting the club with the costs of providing sporting opportunities for players of all ages.
The event wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of our sponsors, volunteers, local businesses and community members who generously contribute their time, products and financial support each year.
When you register for the Hay Fishing Classic, become a sponsor or simply come along for the weekend, you’re helping support grassroots sport in Hay.
